About Jim Marxen
I am a self-taught artist. Although I have painted since I was 12 years old, I have little formal education in painting. My paintings are the product of a long journey of trial-and-error, which will never end. Because I approach my work this way, I am amazed at the discoveries that seemingly come from nowhere.
I am my toughest critic, and am never completely satisfied with anything I do. Thus I always strive to move upward by incorporating what I learn into my next painting. I don’t stand still. My work often shifts dramatically from one phase to the next.
The one constant in all of this is my love of colors that shimmer on the painted surface. Virtually every painting I’ve done has at least a dab of brilliant color.
I’ve been in a number of shows in Sacramento and Southern California. My work has appeared in the Crocker-Kingsley Exhibition at the Crocker Art Gallery and at the California State Fair. I’ve received several awards for my work.
